Kohler's 150th Anniversary

Griffin Design Inc.

My design career began on the toilet, figuratively speaking obviously. I was lucky enough to work for Ann Sacks and then parent company Kohler. As Kohler celebrates their 150th Anniversary, I can't help but be swept up in the captivating history of the brand. It's thrilling to witness the return of their iconic colored bath fixtures, resurrecting a legacy of innovation and style!

Kohler’s 1929 color catalog

Kohler made headlines in 1927 by introducing colored suites, offering a dazzling array of six unique shades. Let's give Kohler a round of applause for pioneering the trend of bringing vibrant colors into our homes. Back then white was the norm. Breaking the mold of norm, Kohler dared us to dream in technicolor and transformed our bathrooms from mere utilitarian spaces to curated sanctuaries of style.

The 150th anniversary has indeed delivered, bringing back the infamous spring green and peach blow colorways. I am spring green with envy with the revived colors from Kohler's archives. My top 3 are: Aspen Green Memoirs Stately toilet, Fresh Green Brockway sink, and the Aspen Green Whitehaven sink.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – colored suites may be a risky business if not executed with finesse, but fear not! From quaint summer cottage bathrooms to vibrant laundry rooms, there may be a place for pop of color to add flair and personality to our most visited rooms.
